GIF Files - TUTORIAL

TUTORIAL:
Ok a couple things before I start.. some things U need that I can’t provide:
1.Adobe Photoshop 9.0 CS2 OR Adobe Imageready :
Unless u wanna go and buy photoshop for 600 bucks, you can always download the trial version, and if u get adobe photoshop 9.0, imageready comes with it. But to make life easiar JUST GET ADOBE IMAGEREADY! Cuz that’s what I use, and I promise this tutorial will seem a WHOLE lot easiar once u get through it.

2. MOVIE STILLS, obviously u have to get these yourself. Now I could do a tut just on how to get those lol but that’s pointless.. and im lazy *wink* as I’ve said to people who’ve asked me before you can take the stills through Windows Media Player by pressing the PRINTSCREEN button or as probably labeled on u’r keyboard as ‘PRT SCR’, then u just copy and paste.. so

3. about the image i have displayed with the steps below.. i took screen shots of what i was doing to make things clear, and the site u usually upload my pics on made the pic all blurry so i had to find this new site i've nver used before, just click on the link, and it's pretty self explanatory! now..

everything else i can help u with...

Official Tutorial:
1. I decided to use a clip from the song ‘Chupke se’ from bunty aur babli cuz im obsessed with it, and I think the vidz adorable.. So once u have the stills u just open them in imageready. And this image shows you how u organize it, one on top of the other, it’s easy, just make sure they’re in the order that u see them on screen, check the LAYERS area.

2. Next you click the button that’s shaped like an arrow that I have circled in the image and you select MAKE FRAMES FROM LAYERS. This just gives each layer a frame, in this case.. 66 different frames (good way to save time!) The 2nd Pic shows what it should look like

3. ok this next part is very important, what I have circled is the speed of u’r gif file. It says 0 seconds right now cuz I haven’t edited it, but I just wanted to point it out.

4. Now this is quick shortcut, click on the arrow button again and select the option that says SELECT ALL FRAMES, tha’ts self explanatory, it selects all the frames for you so you don’t have to edit the time of each frame click by click, meaning 66 clicks. Look at 2nd Pic to see what it should look like..

5. Next you just pick a spot in the ANIMATION area where all the frames should be now selected and you’ll be able to see the different options you have for setting the time for each frame (FIRST PICTURE), now this part is totally up to you, meaning however slow you want u’r gif file to be you get to pick. For most of the gif files I make I usually do .15 seconds, .05 is the quickest I’ve ever done for any file, so for this file we’re just gonna do .05 seconds and press ok..

6. This next step is up to you, I do it cuz I like the effect. Now all the files i’ve ever posted you’ll notice have a pause at the end before they start over, tha’ts usually the part where I put in ABEE02. you can choose if you want that pause to be there or not. If you don’t then the file is just gonna keep playing without any pause, but if u do then when the clip is finished it’ll pause for .5 seconds and then start over. If you want the pause then do this step if you don’t then skip the step.

* if u’r gonna do it then go to the LAST frame in the animation box thing, and right click and choose .5 seconds, or you can do it longer if you want, but .5 makes it look more natural.. does to me atleast.. heh

7. this next part is just a way for you to see how your animation is turning out, cuz u’r pretty much done. If u click on the PLAY button that I have circled it’ll show you your animation and you can see whether you like how it turned out, meaning you have a chance to make it go slower or faster (refer to step 5 if you wanna edit it!)

8. now to save u’r file so it does’nt save as a PDF or a PHOTOSHOP file, you follow this step, go to file, then SAVE OPTIMIZED AS

9. this dialogue box comes up and make SURE that IMAGES ONLY GIF is selected, that will make u’r file a GIF file, so u can upload and put up on sites and stuff!

10. LAST step!!! Ok to edit the image size, u just go to image and do image size, (PICTURE 1) and once the dialogue box comes up I usually decrease by 50 percent (PICTURE 2), but tha’ts because my clips are long sometimes. Make sure u’r file is UNDER 1 MB cuz I don’t know any site that’ll let u upload a file that’s over that, imageshack goes up to 1.04 MB I think, but still decreasing the file size REALLY helps!

OK GUYS, tha’st pretty much it. 10 steps.. not too bad huh? So try it out and post u’r stuff cuz I’d love to see hwo they turned out. I tried to make the tut simple, im so used to photoshop that I don’t know.. I might have takensomething for granted and not explained it, if somethings confusing feel free to ask either by PM’ing me or just posting in the topic. I hope this tut was helpful!!
