10 Ways to survive at dCTorrent




1 : You shall not download large torrents

This is the rule that will save you from being banned in future. If I had to select one way out of all the 10 ways I have written, this would be the one. Don't download DVD-R's if your ratio is very low or you have not even downloaded/uploaded anything. This could put you in a big mess if your upload speed isn't that good. Try to get latest movie releases on the same day that they are posted and you have a good chance of seeding it back to atleast 1:1 if not more. The good thing is that you have 4GB to spare, meaning the ratio rules will be imposed on you after you have downloaded 4GB which means this could give you enough time to download some torrents and improve ratio.

2 : You shall seed back each torrent to atleast 1:1

Every torrent you download must be seeded back to 1:1 ratio. This is for your ratio and for helping the community. Think about it this way, you want to download a torrent which has been completed 150+ times but it has no seeders now and you want it desperately, obviously you won't like the fact that it has been completed by 150 people and no one is seeding. Therefore you must seed so no one on the site is ever in this situation.


3 : You shall understand ratio and its rules

Ratio = Amount Uploaded / Downloaded
You can see it on your profile page or on any page of the forum just under the banner on the top left corner.
If your ratio is below 0.5, you will have 48 hours wait time. 0.5 - 0.6 means 12 hours of wait time. 0.6 - 0.75 ratio means 6 hours of wait time. Above 0.75 = No wait times.
If you download more than 4GB and have less than 0.4 ratio, then you will be warned and eventually banned if you dont improve the ratio.

4 : You shall read FAQs and Rules of the site

Well, you agreed to these when you signed up to the site. It is annoying how some people ask for something which is already included in the FAQs. You must put some effort in of reading the FAQs instead of annoying the hell out of the staff when they are already in the FAQs. You can even find the FAQ button on top of every page near the navigational buttons. Atleast read the FAQ before asking for simple stuff.

5 : You shall search the forums before asking for help

Now, this is what we tell everyone everytime. Everyone thinks they're special and deserve special help etc. Well, we are here to help you but again, put a bit of effort in from your side and search the forums for the question you are about to ask. See if it has been asked before or not. If not then obviously you can post it. If it is, and you still don't understand the problem, only then create a new topic. The search feature is also on every page of the forums.

6 : You shall know your client inside out

The clients not to use are BitTorrent++, Nova Torrent, TorrentStorm and all editions of BitLord and BitComet. These report false information to tracker and will probably not report a few MBs of what you downloaded. Could be other stuff too that it can cause in negative ways.
YOU MUST DISABLE DHT IN YOUR CLIENTS!!!
This is very important because non-dCTorrent clients can get data off you and the upload will most likely not count in your ratio.

7 : You shall beware of the warning

I bet most of you reading this now are saying "LOL, BEWARE OF WARNING". Yes, you should beware. Even though you have just been warned, it could eventually lead to banning. Yes, banning!!
Just to name a few situations when you will be warned :-
Disrespecting the staff or any other member for that matter.
Spamming outside the Spam Thread.
Low ratio.

8 : You shall contribute your own stuff

Well, again let me give you an example. If you want a movie but it isn't on the site because the people who had it "Couldn't be bothered putting it on site", then the site isn't going to run good isit because everyone will be just coming on to download. Therefore share as much as you can and make sure you seed the hell out of the file you share.
Contributing your down stuff is a way of increasing ratio nicely because it just affects the uploading not downloading.

9 : You shall know the ratio free torrents

Yepp, the ratio free torrents. Music Torrents.
Well what the ratio free torrents do is that you can download the file but it won't affect your downloading ratio. However, whatever you upload will be affected. So at the end, its your benifit of getting these ratio free torrents. They are a nice way of getting rid of your wait times of new torrents.

10 : You shall respect the staff

Don't disrespect the staff. They are volunteers, not paid for the time they spend on the site. They do this out of respect for the community, putting in many hours checking the forums, fixing problems, checking torrent issues, helping users with their problems. Overall, making sure that the site runs well. Treat them nicely. Don't argue with them and take time to understand if there is a problem with the site. People have been warned/banned for this issue in the past because they couldn't respect them. So people, please respect the staff.
