i just recently am having this same error code come up 80073712, when updating if anyone has anything new please let me know those who are operating under Vista i have searched all thread in google still no fix as I see alot of people that has Vista is going the same problem ....I tried these steps which i read from google

After I ran the “sfc/snannow” I got the following message:
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Details are included in the CBS.log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
Not sure what this means....
Windows Vista Update does not work any more....
i have read thread saying no fix just reinstall Vista and that is coming from MS which i have never done it an don't want try it ... but it is headache when you try to open UR files and window explore shutting them down frequently and i looked this thing there's tremoundes topic about this issue..
If Mac were cheap i bet you everyone would switch to mac instead MS as far OS I am done with it..Mark my words MS my next purchase for personal use is a MAC.

'Run As' :-

If you find that you need to install programs or make changes to the system that require Administrator access, or even if you need to access files or folders of another user, but don't want to log out and log back in as that user, you can use the 'Run As' command by following these instructions:

1. Right-click on the file or program you wish to run (you can right-click on executable file names in a Windows Explorer window, or you can right-click on programs listed in the Start menu).
2. Click the radio button next to "The following user:"
3. Enter the username of the account you wish to log in as (you can also click arrow on the drop-down box for a list of available user accounts).
4. Enter the password for the account being used

So you need to run cmd as administrator (unless you are already loggged in as admin).... easiest is create a shortcut of cmd on desktop and rt click --> run as..

then try the fix as mentioned in
Never put external links directly onto DcT... consider this as first warning regarding this... always include it in 'code' tags.. as i have done above...

Every new software has issues and company comes out with patches.. This is the way software world works.. as nothing is perfect.. You should not be using that kind of language over here in public forums...

Also it is always good to wait for few patches/service packs to come out before jumping onto new OS...

Lastly, I would say that this error/issue is with windows updater only... it is not hindering you day to day work (downloading)... So it is better to wait for some days so that MS comes out with a patch...

OR else call/email MS, give them your windwos key as every purchase comes with some kind of Tech support...
