I am using Sony Vaio Laptop VGN-N220E.
My Dvd rom is not working properly. Its Matshita dvd-ram uj-850s. Which ever disc I insert (Dvd or Cd), it reads it as a blank disc only. I am on Windows Vista Home Premium. I jus updated it to Service Pack 1 also but no help. Plzz Help.... |

DO NOT Uninstall the Drivers.......
They come in a package and once you uninstall them, you MAY LOSE more than just the DVD....which is not working anyways. OK....you can see the DVD Drive in My Computer...great....atleast it is detected. But unable to read....hmmmm.....and that tooo any CD or DVD.....how old is it....CD cleaner perhaps?...if not...then..... 1) OK....go to Device Manager......once there....do you see a whole bunch of "+" "Plus" signs....except the top one....? 2) If you see ALL "+" "Plus" signs.....proceed to Step 4. 3) If you see "Other Devices" or "Unknown Devices" or "SM BUS Controller"...... Please tell me what you see... 4) Now....if step 3 is there or not.....do this anyways.... UN-INSTALL the ALL DVD ROM drives ONLY (Uninstall the Hardware from Devise Manager.....right Click on it)....from Device Manager.....and then....reboot....it'll comeback if it is meant too. 5)What DMA state is your DVD Drive....do you know where to see this? Hint: Device manager and under advance setting under each device properties. 6) The last thing in Device manager is "USB"...with a + sign ....good..... Make this plus sign a Minus by clicking on it... Now...the tree just expanded.....and tell me....what EXACTLY is written for for any one of the USB Controllers? Does it say "Standard USB Controller" or "VIA Standard Controler" or "Intel 82801BF controller" I am just trying to find out if all your NB and SB chipset drivers are installed correctly or not. Installing SP1 may have written the drivers for many devices....and we all know that Vista is just a buggy as Windows Millenium. side Note: Do a Windows CUSTOM Update.... and a sony update.... see if this correts the issue. Take Care DN |
