I will appreciate if you do proper research or find out details of something you post in public.... You should know ins- and - outs of anything that you suggest to others...
For sure StartupDelay will increase the startup speed as you are reducing delay time... But you should know what this variable is ment for... I doubt that MS is that dumb to just delay / slow down their OS, as there are many faster Linux OS. As per MS, Windows XP loads in approx 45sec if no 3rd party stuff is loaded (ie similar to safe mode).. It is the drivers and other softwares that cause delay.. How many times we normally restart our PC.. mine is hardly once a month for all my lappys and desktops.. I dont restart unless needed, as it causes up and down of charge in all the silicone (CPU, transistor, ICs etc etc) of the PC.. whcih is not that good for their health.. If you want windows to run / search faster after booting then spending extra few seconds while startup is worth it ...as this will allow indexing service to complete... and search will be faster with all advanced search algorithms runable. In general, in Operating system field, we add delay only if we are waiting for some other thread to finish up something important.. ie parent thread waits for children to finish.. like OS main thread may wait for a thread which finds new hardware OR detect peripheral devices so that parent can enable them... Startup Delay is :- The StartupDelay entry controls the time delay after a system startup before Indexing Service, an automatic system service, starts any scanning or indexing work.more details at :- If it was me... I will let reduce this variable only if I have good amount of RAM... ie I m pretty sure that indexing service and other threads will finish before this delay time.. for sure i can do as i have 8Gb of RAM As if indexing is not complete then your search in windows will be much slower... as it will be sequencial search.. no search algorithms could have been used... just my 2 cents... |
